I saw that the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office
is honoring several women this month. Who is being
honored and why? In honor of Women’s History Month, I chose to recognize outstanding women throughout the borough who have dedicated themselves to their own communities above and beyond what was required of them. Whether it is by caring for elderly residents, mentoring teens or assisting battered women, each of these women, in her own way, has given of herself to causes that profoundly affect her community.
On Friday, March 30, 2007, at 6:00 p.m., I will be honoring these women at Polytechnic University’s Bern Dibner Auditorium, where they will be acknowledged for their service and presented with citations lauding their efforts. All are welcome to attend. For more information about the honorees, go to www.brooklynda.org and click on “Brooklyn’s Extraordinary Women.”
I am dealing with a Brooklyn-based business who I believe is committing or has committed fraud. To whom may I report this?
If you suspect consumer fraud, you should file a complaint with the New York State Attorney General’s Office, Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau, 120 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10271 (telephone number 212-416-8345). You may also file a complaint with the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs, 42 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10004 (telephone number 212-487-4110). My office’s Citizen Action Center in downtown Brooklyn and my neighborhood offices, which are located throughout Brooklyn, can also provide appropriate referrals if you suspect a business is involved in defrauding the public. Please call my neighborhood office hotline at 718-250-2555 for the location nearest you. To have your questions answered in a future column, send them to asktheda@brooklynda.org. |
