I would like to resolve a long-standing dispute with my landlord. Can anyone in your Office help me?
If the problem is connected to a building in Brooklyn, you can call upon the District Attorney’s Action Center (DAAC). The DAAC has been providing assistance to the borough’s residents for more than twenty years. The DAAC meets with more than 100 visitors per month in addition to fielding more than 1000 phone calls and letters. Calls to our Center include such concerns as landlord/tenant disputes, fraud, harassment, bad checks, drug dealing, child abuse, domestic violence and sexual abuse. Trained members of my staff screen complaints for any actionable criminal conduct. They also answer questions about the criminal justice process and provide referrals where appropriate to outside organizations and agencies.
The first step is to call the DAAC at
(718) 250-2340 to schedule an appointment or speak to one of our
staff members. A trained professional will carefully evaluate your
complaint and decide how best to resolve it. Your complaint could
result in an investigation and prosecution by our office, a referral
to the police or another government agency, or, in some cases, an
immediate resolution of the problem. To have your questions answered in a future column, please send them to asktheda@brooklynda.org. |
