In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, I had the distinct honor of presenting awards to four highly accomplished individuals of Hispanic decent.
This celebration of Hispanic Heritage highlights the achievements of inspirational individuals of Hispanic decent of whom we are all so proud.
In every field and profession, we can find the influence of distinguished Hispanic men and women – in the military, social work, public service and journalism. Their impact on our American landscape has been profound. And we need look no further than Brooklyn to find shining examples in the Hispanic men and women whose illustrious achievements have added so much to this borough and helped make Brooklyn a richer and better place.
Last night I honored four individuals of Hispanic descent whose impressive accomplishments have contributed to the legacy shared by all Hispanic-Americans: Command Sgt. Major Juan A. Cáez RET., U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Hamilton, recipient of the Distinguished Military Service Award; Cynthia Gonzalez, Social Worker, Sunset Park Mental Health Center of Lutheran HealthCare, recipient of the Distinguished Public Service Award; Pedro Ortega, Editor and Publisher of El Barrio News, recipient of the Distinguished Journalism Award; and Carlos Pagan, Executive Director, El Regreso, Inc., recipient of the Humanitarian Award.
My deepest congratulations to all of the honorees.
