Last week I announced a new public safety initiative called “Safe Stop” in Sunset Park and Park Slope.  Safe Stop provides a safe place for youth, seniors and all other area residents to go and access help and information about the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, it’s Neighborhood Office Program, and all of the other crime prevention programs offered both by my Office and the New York City Police Department.  Each Safe Stop location will also be designated as a safe place to go in the event of an emergency.

Safe Stop merchant participants will be asked to display a decal in their store windows designating the location as a Safe Stop; receive training about the program; make public safety information from the District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD available in their stores, and refer non-emergency situations to the local KCDA Neighborhood Office.  Emergencies that require immediate medical, police or fire response will be handled through the 911 emergency response system.

Another component of Safe Stop will be Assistant District Attorneys spreading the word about this public safety initiative via our Legal Lives Program in which my attorneys appear in schools throughout Brooklyn each year to present a law-related curriculum to young people.  If interested in becoming a Safe Stop location please call (718) 250-2247.
