Kings County District
Attorney, Charles J. Hynes, established the Community Relations Bureau
to develop and pursue public safety initiatives that would serve the
county’s 2.5 million residents. The bureau’s Community Relations
Specialists form reliable working relationships with community
organizations, local police precincts, schools, businesses, elected
officials and residents.
These alliances produce
many opportunities for partnerships to address neighborhood safety
concerns. Being active in the community, provides Community Relations
Specialists with many opportunities to inform Brooklyn’s residents of
the agency’s educational and quality of life initiatives.
These include advancing:
·
Safe Haven program – residents are provided easy access
to specific locations where they can seek safety or help in emergencies.
·
People's Law School –
an outline of the criminal justice process
presented in a seminar format.
·
Formal Trespass Affidavit Program (F-TAP)
– a response to drug-related crime in
multi-dwelling buildings.
Alternative Sentencing
program – offenders are assigned to graffiti removal and other community
service projects. |
