More than 10 years ago, staff members from the
D.A.’s Office established the Brooklyn Domestic
Violence Task Force. Every month,
practitioners from hospitals, schools, businesses
and child welfare agencies work on issues concerning
victims of domestic violence. The Bureau also
started an emergency response team which sends
experienced prosecutors and social workers to work
with the police on serious assault and homicide
cases. Each year, the bureau sponsors a domestic
violence conference, which is open to the
community. Topics have included gaps in resources,
teen dating violence and elder abuse.
