In Brooklyn’s current real estate market, it
is important to be on the lookout for
predatory lenders trying to make a quick
buck off trusting homebuyers. Educated
consumers can avoid being victimized by
keeping the following guidelines in mind: |
|
|
| |
- Bring
your own lawyer with you to handle
transactions and paperwork. Do not use
the lenders lawyer.
-
Use common sense: if something looks too
good to be true, it probably is.
- Read everything very carefully. Do not
agree to a deal verbally; get everything in writing.
- Do not agree to falsify information
pertaining to your income and your expenses.
- Don’t sign a blank document or a document
containing blank spaces to be filled in for you later.
- Try to be as informed as possible, and don’t
let anyone convince you to take out a bigger loan than what you need.
