Careers With The
Kings County District Attorney's Office

The Kings County District Attorney's Office
The Kings County District Attorney’s Office is one of the largest and busiest prosecutor's offices in the nation, serving over two million residents in ethnically and culturally diverse Brooklyn, New York.   Led by District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, the office is a partner with the Brooklyn community and other law enforcement agencies.

Each year over 2,500 graduates from law schools representing all regions across the nation apply for a limited number of positions.

The District Attorney has committed his legal career to public service and considers it an honor to serve in this capacity.  He is a life long advocate of public service and expects attorneys who work with the office to view the profession in the same regard.  Applicants should demonstrate a sound work ethic and a willingness to embrace challenge in an environment that is time consuming and deadline oriented.  New assistant district attorneys can expect to fully participate in every aspect of investigating and prosecuting crime, up to and including presenting a case to a judge and jury.

Compensation in salary and benefits is competitive for the market and new assistants will have the benefit of courtroom experience early in their career.  At this time, we only hire graduates after they have passed the New York State Bar Examination.  New classes of Assistant District Attorneys begin in January.  There may also be a small summer class.

Application Process
Interested applicants should forward a cover letter, resume, writing sample and statement of interest.  The statement of interest should illustrate the applicant's reasons for seeking a position in public service with our office as well as information about academic experience both inside and outside of the classroom.  Once we have received the application we will review it to determine advancement to the next phase.  The following phase includes one or more interviews. The final interview is with District Attorney Charles J. Hynes.

The application (cover letter, resume, writing sample and statement of interest) should be mailed to the attention of Carol Moran, Esq., Director of Legal Hiring, Kings County District Attorney’s Office, Renaissance Plaza, 350 Jay Street, Brooklyn, New York 11201-2908  U.S.A.

Deadline
The deadline for consideration in the next class is March 1st, 2008.
