Assistant District Attorney Positions
with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office

The Kings County District Attorney's Office

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office is one of the largest and busiest prosecutor's offices in the nation, serving over two million residents in ethnically and culturally diverse Brooklyn, New York. Led by District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, the office is a partner with the Brooklyn community and other law enforcement agencies.

Each year over 2,500 graduates from law schools representing all regions across the nation apply for a limited number of positions.

The District Attorney has committed his legal career to public service and considers it an honor to serve in this capacity. He is a life long advocate of public service and expects attorneys who work with the office to view the profession in the same regard. Applicants should demonstrate a sound work ethic and a willingness to embrace challenge in an environment that is time consuming and deadline oriented. New assistant district attorneys can expect to fully participate in every aspect of investigating and prosecuting crime, up to and including presenting a case to a judge and jury.

Compensation in salary and benefits is competitive for the market and new assistants will have the benefit of courtroom experience early in their career. At this time, we only hire graduates after they have passed the New York State Bar Examination. New classes of Assistant District Attorneys begin in January.

Attorney Application Process

Interested applicants for an Assistant District Attorney position should forward a cover letter, resume and statement of interest, but not a writing sample or transcript. The statement of interest should illustrate the applicant's reasons for seeking a position in public service with our office as well as information about experience both inside and outside of the classroom.

Applications for the Class of 2015 will ONLY be accepted from September 1, 2013 until December 1, 2013. Therefore, all applications MUST be postmarked between September 1, 2013 and December 1, 2013. All applications not postmarked in this time frame will not be considered. We encourage you to apply early because applications are reviewed as received. Once we have received the application we will review it to determine advancement to the next phase, which includes one or more interviews. Applicants invited to interview will be asked to bring a transcript and writing sample to the interview.
