Safe
Haven is a public safety program developed by the
New York City Police Department. The program
provides residents with easy access to specific
locations where they can seek safety or help in
emergencies. Kings County District Attorney, Charles
J. Hynes, has provided that assistance in many of
Brooklyn’s neighborhoods.
The Community Relations Specialists in his
office work vigorously throughout the borough
bringing police, local businesses and residents
together in Safe Haven partnerships. Merchants and
commercial establishments that volunteer as Safe
Haven locations are given a large blue and orange
decal, which bears the Safe Haven emblem and is
placed in the front window of their business. |

The decal informs residents that these businesses
will provide assistance in situations involving
medical emergencies, people who are lost or injured,
and crime victims. You will find most Safe Haven
locations near commercial areas and schools and
along routes frequented by senior citizens and
students.
There are more than 1000 Safe Haven
locations throughout Brooklyn. The program is
currently in: Flatbush, Prospect Heights, Bay Ridge,
Canarsie, Williamsburg, Dyker Heights,
Bedford-Stuyvesant, the Metrotech area, Bensonhurst,
Greenpoint, Bushwick, Sheepshead Bay, Brighton
Beach, Coney Island and Midwood.
