A Message to Crime Victims from DA Hynes

I understand that being a victim of a crime can be a difficult and deeply troubling experience.

If you have any questions about the criminal justice process, or if you would like to talk with someone about issues that you may be confronting as a crime victim, please call (718) 250-3820, to make an appointment with one of the counselors in our Victim Services Unit.  These trained professionals provide a range of services, including crisis intervention services, short-term counseling, safety planning, property release information, assistance in obtaining orders of protection, and referrals and advocacy assistance with outside agencies and the District Attorney’s Office’s legal staff.   In addition, they can help you apply for victim compensation if you are eligible.

An informative pamphlet, which has been prepared by the New York State Crimes Victims Board and which explains your rights as a victim of a crime in New York State, can be downloaded from our website.  Please go to: http://www.brooklynda.org and click on:  “Are you a crime victim Know your rights.”  If you do not have access to a computer, please contact our Victim Services Unit for a hardcopy of this pamphlet.

My staff and I are committed to protecting the people of Brooklyn and to helping victims of crime.  We want to ensure that you get all of the information, assistance, and support that you need.  I encourage you to call us.

                                                                                                     Sincerely,
